| Geohot May Have Untethered Jailbreak Exploit For Certain iOS 4.2.1 Jailbroken Devices Posted: 04 Jan 2011 01:55 AM PST We've been covering all jailbreak related news extensively over the past few weeks and not long ago, we reported a speculation which was that Geohot's next jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 may be called Rubyra1n, however now that speculation is substantiated by iPhone Dev-Team's MuscleNerd's tweet, in which he says that Geohot may have an untether for some jailbroken devices running iOS 4.2.1. This development comes in reply to this tweet:
MuscleNerd Replied:
So if one were to treat this statement as totally legit, does that mean that Geohot have something up his sleeves and is going to make a dramatic comeback in the jailbreak scene any time soon even though his untethered jailbreak exploit is said to be limited to certain devices? We are as skeptical as you might be, however, do share your thoughts in the comments below. |
| Apple Hikes Product Prices In United Kingdom After VAT Increase Posted: 04 Jan 2011 01:38 AM PST It was reported yesterday that Apple today took down its online store in the UK for a few hours, in order to raise prices to account for an increase in the national value-added tax (VAT) going into effect today that is seeing the rate rise from 17.5% to 20%. Meaning that now, in order to maintain its margins, Apple has raised the prices of all its products in the United Kingdom. Macrumors reports:
Some observers thought that Apple might simply lower their prices slightly in order to absorb the tax increases, which in turn would help maintain the psychological price point the company uses for many of its products, however contrary to that belief, Apple has decided that it is going to pass along the tax increase to consumers in order to maintain its margins. |
| Vizio Announces New Android Based Smartphone and Tablet Devices Posted: 04 Jan 2011 01:24 AM PST The tablet race has really begun to get into overdrive as it now seems that every other manufacturer in the market is churning out a new tablet device now and then. This latest entrée comes from Vizio, a company which is generally best known for its LCD TV products. Vizio has announced the launch of an Android based smartphone and tablet. As of now, these two devices are named as Vizio VIA Phone and Vizio VIA Tablet; however the names could be changed. Looking at the set of features that these devices sport, we see that there is a 1 GHz processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS, a MicroSD card slot, HDMI output with HD video playback, an IR blaster paired with a universal remote control app and a front-facing camera for video chats, quite impressive. In terms of screen, the Vizio VIA Phone features a 4-inch capacitive touch screen and a 5-megapixel camera. The Vizio VIA tablet, on the other hand, has an 8-inch screen and three speakers that provide stereo sound in both portrait and landscape position. These devices are said to be a part of Vizio's upcoming VIA Plus ecosystem, which should provide a unified experience across Vizio's phone, tablet, HDTVs and Blu-ray players. Regardless of the fact that both of these devices are Android based, the company has not revealed which particular version of Android these device will be running. Perhaps we shall find out when Vizio finally displays these devices at CES later this week. Via Mashable |

Well here's an update on that, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable owners can now rejoice as Angry Birds will be available for download as a PlayStation mini title this week. It looks like this particular mini version of Angry Birds will be rather similar to the versions of Angry Birds that are already available for iOS, Android and Symbian devices, complete with support for 63 levels of bird-flinging, block-busting, pig-smashing action. The company behind this insanely popular game, Rovio, already confirmed that it was working on a console version of Angry Birds for Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii and the PS3. The game's popularity can also be seen from the fact that it has topped 50 million free and paid downloads, breaking through as one of the true cross-platform hits of the smartphone age. We've all loved Angry Birds on our smartphones and what not, but are you excited to get some bird slinging action on your PSP? Let us know what you think in your comments below. Via Mashable |

The Samsung Galaxy S is one such device with a promising future. This Android powered device was well received by consumers all around the world and now Samsung has announced that it has sold more than 10 million units of the Galaxy S, in just less than seven months, which substantiate the fact that this device can be a competitor in the market. Jason Kim, a Samsung spokesman said:
So things worked out really well for Samsung regardless of the fact that it chose the Android platform to compete directly with Apple's iOS, however looking at these numbers, it is hard to deny that Samsung has not made a remarkable achievement is such a short span of time as after the end of an exhaustive marketing campaign, the company shipped 1 million Galaxy S smartphones in the United State alone, within the first month on the market. Looking at collective numbers for the Galaxy S in other regions, Overall, Samsung has sold 4 million units in North America, 2.5 million in Europe and more than 2 million in South Korea in just less than seven month, which is indeed quite impressive. | WordPress Issues A Challenge For Bloggers To Post Daily In 2011 Posted: 04 Jan 2011 12:33 AM PST The New Year festivities have finally ended as 2011 has ultimately rolled in, but the New Year brings it with a ton of resolutions which people make in order to stop or start doing things that they really wanted to do in the coming year. Take blogging for instance, some people blog professionally, while others just make a blog, write one post and forget about it altogether. To widen the interest of these lazy bloggers, popular blogging platform WordPress has issued a challenge to its blogger users over the New Year holiday, challenging them to write and publish one post a day (or a week) throughout 2011. When it comes to professional bloggers, they're truly addicted, but for non-professional and personal bloggers the thought of writing and posting every day is pretty troublesome, so in a bid to cure that syndrome, the people at WordPress have launched The Daily Post, a guide with daily tidbits of "inspiration, encouragement and advice about blogging." It is true that many people would have made blogging as one of their New Year's resolutions, as blogging online is a free, fun and interactive way of sharing your own content, be it of any kind, with the world. WordPress' Daily Post seems like a good enough place to induce that very charm into those who find blogging on a daily basis, tiresome as its suggestions for evocative post topics are great springboards for thoughtful writing. So if you're willing to participate in this particular challenge from WordPress, simply state your intentions then tag posts with "postaday2011″ or "postaweek2011″ throughout the year. Did you make blogging as one of your New Year's resolutions and do you plan on taking this challenge to make sure that you write and post at least one post per day or week? | Google Cr-48 Notebook Gets Hacked to Run Ubuntu, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard Posted: 03 Jan 2011 06:57 AM PST Earlier last year, on 8th December 2010 to be exact, we reported the launch of the very first laptop which was powered by the much hyped Chrome OS from Google; the laptop was to be offered to a select group of people through a public beta Chrome OS Pilot Program. So it goes without saying that Google had initially intended that the Cr-48, the unbranded Chrome OS sporting laptop from the internet search giant, run nothing other than its own OS, but as adventurous as people can be, take a look at yet another possibility of the Cr-48 as it has been hacked to run Ubuntu, Mac OS X, and Windows. Yes! You read it just right, even this not-generally-released unbranded laptop from Google has been hacked to do the tweaker's bidding, and if that was not all, people who have been lucky enough to get their hands on the laptop can follow the instructions to hack their own Cr-48 in order to run Mac OS X, Ubuntu and Windows 7 on it, needless to say, if you plan on performing this procedure, for which the bottom cover of the laptop will have to be opened, please keep in mind that it can brick your system and can also void the warranty. However, it should also be kept in mind that instructions pertaining to the installation of particularly Ubuntu and Windows 7 operating systems have been posted on Something Awful, the instructions for installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard on the Cr-48 are available on Insanely Mac. In the meanwhile, have a look at this video showing the all new Google Cr-48 running the Mac OS X Snow Leopard:
