| Recommended Free Google Fonts For Your Presentations Posted: 23 Dec 2010 03:30 AM PST Every time I see Times New Roman or Arial for use as header fonts on print or PowerPoint presentations, I die a little inside because it looks really, really tacky. The Google Font Directory has been growing in size. Every font there does have a TTF for download that you can install right now – free. The fonts shown are best used in larger sizes, so they make for very good headers. These are my recommendations for which to use. Fantastic for restaurant menus even if the restaurant doesn’t serve seafood. It has a nice retro-yet-modern look to it and just a slight italic lean to make it distinctive. This font suits well for product demonstration in which the product has a bit of upper-class flair to it. It also suits very well for IT instructional documentation because it looks "friendly". Friendly-looking fonts do go a long way when you’re trying to instruct end users how to do something. This font has a monospaced look to it and is well-suited for technical documentation because of its terminal-ish look. If this doesn’t suit your fancy, Cousine probably will. Comic Sans sucks and is evil. Never use that font. If you want "fun", use this instead. This is a very "businessy" sans-serif font. Better than Arial, not as arsty as Helvetica (a plus) and all business. This font is very good for signs. It’s thickness makes it very easy to read and you can go huge with it without looking tacky. | 5 Places To Get Free Calendars Posted: 23 Dec 2010 03:00 AM PST In this article I’m talking about printed calendars and not the internet kind. Nobody likes buying a calendar. Nobody. It’s not that you can’t afford it, it’s the principle of the whole thing because there’s no such thing as a cheap calendar. Yes, it’s true you can print your own if you wish, but the paper isn’t bound or on a coil, nor does it have that little hole so you can tack it up on the wall. Here are 5 places to get free calendars. Whenever you find them, always take at least three. 1. Major Car Dealership Service CenterBy ‘major’ I mean GM, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota and so on, because smaller dealerships almost never give anything away for free. Go to the service center and there will usually be free calendars on the desk in the waiting area, or at the service clerk’s window. If you’re lucky they may also have pocket-sized calendars for the refrigerator. 2. Auto Parts StoresNAPA, PepBoys, AdvanceAuto, Autozone and local-yokel auto parts stores will usually have free calendars at the checkout. 3. Real Estate OfficesI remember a time when every real estate office had free calendars of some kind, including magnet-style for fridge. That’s not the case anymore but some larger companies do still have them. The trick however is going in the office to grab a calendar and leave without buying a house. 4. The BankBanks are tricky with calendars because they usually always have them but only break them out on ‘special’ occasions. Why they do this I have no idea. The next time you go to your local bank, ask if they have calendars. They probably do. While you’re at it, ask if they have letter openers too because they give those away for free as well. 5. Dunkin’ DonutsThis is a per-franchise thing but most DD’s do give away free calendars. Again this is one of those things where if you don’t see them, ask and they probably have them behind the counter. Did I miss any?Where do you get your free calendars? Post from: PCMech. | How To Place The Recycle Bin On Your Windows 7 Taskbar Posted: 22 Dec 2010 02:00 PM PST If you like having easy access to your Windows Recycle Bin, but do not like having it as a desktop icon, then move it to the taskbar. Unfortunately, this is not a straightforward operation, but this article titled "Place a Fully Functional Recycle Bin on your Windows 7 Taskbar" shows you exactly how to do it. Essentially, you have to do some trickery with the Quick Launch Toolbar to get this trick to work, but when all is said and done, you will have a functional Recycle Bin on your taskbar. I personally have not tried this trick as I do not mind having the Recycle Bin on my desktop. Is this icon something that bothers you and if so, is this workaround acceptable? Post from: PCMech. | How To Enable Virtualbox Remote Desktop Connectivity Posted: 22 Dec 2010 06:09 AM PST Chances are if you use Virtualbox, you most likely have more than one computer in the home. The problem is that Virtualbox sessions are only limited to the PC they run on, right? Wrong. You can share out Virtualbox sessions easily using the built-in Remote Display Server. Do you need a special client? Not necessary. You can use the Windows built-in Remote Desktop Client. See video for how it all works – it’s very easy to do. Post from: PCMech.
