Microsoft CEO Reveals That The Windows Phone 7 Gets Over 100 Apps Each Day From Over 20,000 Developers

Posted: 06 Jan 2011 12:20 AM PST

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's CES keynote has been anxiously awaited for a couple of reasons, first because of the anticipated Windows based tablet devices, and other than that, people hoped to get insights and some interesting facts about the revamped mobile platform, Windows Phone 7.

It can't be denied, the Windows Phone 7 had a huge launch and was widely appreciated, however Microsoft has been boasting about the spectacular success of Kinect and Windows 7, but no where do we see such revelations for Windows Phone 7, the latest of which were tell-tale sales figures that were released a while ago.

Steve Ballmer said:

The reaction to the product has been great. We launched 9 phones across… 30 countries – When people see the phone they fall in love with it… Nine out of ten customers say they'd recommend the phone

He further went on to add:

Our customers get access to more than 100 new applications every 24 hours… More than 20,000 developers are keeping the pipeline full.

What's remarkable about the Windows Phone 7 is its amazing compatibility with games, as of course Microsoft has been a leader in the gaming arena through Xbox, then come the amazing apps and the really productive native integration of the device with Microsoft Office.

So this means that the Windows Phone 7 offers high levels of customer satisfaction, making these devices increasingly popular with the masses. In the coming months, Microsoft will be rolling out a few OTA updates, including copy/paste functions and performance enhancements. The phones will also be coming to Sprint and Verizon in early 2011.

Microsoft Makes Official Announcement That Windows 8 Shall Support ARM-Based Devices

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 11:03 PM PST

Rumors have been flying around for far too long that whether or not the next version of Microsoft's signature operating system, Windows, will support ARM-based devices, now those very rumors have been confirmed by the announcements made by the company at CES 2011, stating that the next version of Windows will indeed be supporting ARM-based devices.

President of WIndows Live Division Steven Sinofsky said:

With today's announcement, we're showing the flexibility and resiliency of Windows through the power of software and a commitment to world-class engineering,

Currently, Windows supports the x86 architecture utilized by Intel and AMD's processors, nevertheless the company has clearly announced that the next version of Windows, let's call it Windows 8 for want of identity, will also support the System on a Chip (SoC) architecture, including the one designed by ARM.

During the CES announcements, upcoming products were displayed running the UI of the current Windows 7, and the products were ARM-based systems from NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments. It should be kept in mind that the upcoming version of Windows is apart from the Windows Phone 7 OS, which already powers mobile phones, capitalizing on the ARM architecture.

It was only last month that rumors start flowing about Microsoft's intention of supporting ARM-based devices, and having made this announcement, the consumers are bound to see a much more tailored for tablets and low-power device version of Microsoft Windows soon enough.

Official Twitter for Mac Application To Launch Tomorrow With The Mac App Store

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:58 PM PST

This announcement is probably going to be appreciated a lot particularly by Mac users as sources claim that Twitter's official Mac desktop app will be coming to the Mac App Store by tomorrow, which ironically happens to be the launch date of the Mac App Store.

RazorianFly claims that it has received a mysterious, vague leak pertaining to the release of the Twitter for Mac app which will be launching tomorrow. Detailed features have not been given out yet however some features have been reported among which native retweet support, real-time updates and drag-and-drop tweeting capabilities are mentioned. FYI: Twitter had acquired Tweetie maker Atebis in the spring of 2010.

So if an official Twitter for Mac app does launch tomorrow, this will seriously pose a real threat to third-party Twitter desktop clients. The app will simply be called "Twitter for Mac," meaning that the official client shall pawn all third-part, single-service app makers' Twitter clients.

The detailed review on the features of Twitter for Mac will obviously come when it is ultimately launched, however, meanwhile, do let us know what are your thoughts about Twitter for Mac and will it surpass all other third party Twitter clients, in your comments below.

LG Announces Optimus Black World’s Thinnest Mobile

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 09:21 AM PST

There has been a lot of work on the OS of phones in the past few months. From latest version of  iOs to new versions of Android. What can make a cell phone different now? The answer would be its hardware and shape.

LG has just done that.  They have unveiled world's slimmest phone (till now).  It is only 9.2 mm thick. Its weight is 109 g. These specs do not mean that LG has deprived phone of new upgrades.

LG Electronics (LG) announced today it will unveil a new Android smartphone, LG Optimus Black, at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from January 6th in Las Vegas. Providing users with a dramatically brighter 4-inch NOVA display in the world’s slimmest 9.2 mm mobile device, LG Optimus Black creates a one-of-a-kind user experience unlike anything before.

Available for the first time in the mobile market, LG Optimus Black’s NOVA display is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits of brightness for optimal visibility. LG Optimus Black provides users with an easier and more natural experience when browsing the web, reading emails, or writing documents with higher levels of brightness and pure white tones that deliver true black and white colors for ideal handset viewing. NOVA technology featured on LG Optimus Black also enables users to maintain visibility whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight.

In addition to greater luminosity, the NOVA display on LG Optimus Black also radically reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD. Similarly, AMOLED consumes twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen, the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing. Combined with the 1500 mAh battery of the LG Optimus Black, users will have enough power for their daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings.

The key features included are:

  • NOVA screen for viewing in direct sunlight
  • It will run 2.2 Foryo  (upgradeable to Gingerbread)
  • 2MP front facing camera (World's First)
  • Wifi Direct to transfer data between phones

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 06:55 AM PST

Project Natal or Kinect as we know it, took market with storm. They revolutionized gaming.  But this had one restriction, that it was confined to Xbox.

PrimeSense , the guys behind the Kinect, have just released their own version of Kinect. This time Kinect is for Personal computers.

It’s apparently called the “WAVI Xtion" . The hardware is similar to Kinect.  So , basically gaming experience would be same as Xbox.  . To navigate you just have to move your hand in appropriate direction and sensor will translate it into a movement.  To click you have to make a pushing movement with open palm.

It seems that the first adapter of this technology is going to be Asus. It could be a great way to browse internet, watch movies, play games or go through pictures.  Gaming and computing will evolve for computers like never before.
