Apple iPad 2 US Release on 2nd or 9th April While International Release Will Start From July 2011 [Rumor]

Posted: 14 Jan 2011 05:34 AM PST

Apple has released iOS 4.3 Beta for all to try out, and while we are mesmerized by the new features iOS 4.3 will bring, there have been hints of new iOS devices, particularly of three new variants of the iPad, in the iOS 4.3 Beta's code, and following rumors that Apple will be releasing the next iteration to its magical tablet, the iPad 2, on 1st February 2011, a MacNotes.de report indicates that  the second generation iPad is scheduled to be released on the first or second Saturday of April, i.e. 2nd or 9th April, 2011.

The report says:

Reliable sources told us about the upcoming launch of the Apple iPad 2: the first or second Saturday in April will see the first sales of Apple’s new tablet. The iPad will sell two-for U.S. only three months, and Apple Store only for up to half a year. In July, more countries will follow. Walmart, Best Buy Co. and maybe have to wait until October until they are allowed to sell Apple’s new tablets.

The iPad 2 is going to ship with retinal display, USB port and two cameras. While the features meet the expectations, the release dates do not: frustration overseas is expected, as shorter delays in the international rollout of the iPhone 4 and the first iPad were already highly disappointing for Apple’s customers and fans outside the U.S - Apple wants to sell the iPad 2 in its own stores exclusively for 3 to 6th

If this report is anything to go by, then we shall indeed see the iPad 2 being launched on the dates mentioned above, and the specifications claim that the report makes, pertaining to the iPad 2 featuring USB port, two cameras, and a retina display, which will nevertheless not be like the high pixel density one that the iPhone 4 has, also seem similar to the claims Digg's founder Kevin Rose made earlier this month.

Do you think Apple will launch the iPad 2 in April along with all of these features? Let us know what you think in your comments below.

How to Enable Multi-Touch Gestures On iOS 4.3 Beta for iPad [Tutorial]

Posted: 14 Jan 2011 05:07 AM PST

Apple has seeded iOS 4.3 Beta for all to try out, and if you've installed in on your iPad but are unable to use the much hyped about multi-touch gestures feature, bear in mind that it is not due to an error in your device, you simply need to take one extra step to activate the multi-touch gestures feature on your magical tablet, that is the iPad and in this tutorial, we're going to show you exactly how to do that.

The Beta version of iOS 4.3 has currently been released, meaning that you will have to activate this feature via Xcode, the development tool that Apple provides with its SDK, on your Mac machine.

Follow the steps given below to enable multi-touch gestures features on your iPad running iOS 4.3 Beta:

Step 1: Download iOS 4.3 Beta firmware and restore it on your iPad via iTunes

Step 2: Download & install the latest version of Xcode

Step 3: Run Xcode then click on the iPad icon in the sidebar

Step 4: A new window pops open, here click on "Use for Development"

Step 5: Log in with your Apple Developer user credentials and wait for Xcode to verify the device with Apple's servers, when the procedure is done, the icon next to the iPad will then turn green

Step 6: Close Xcode and kill the Settings.app from the multitasking tray on your iPad, You can do so by opening the tray with double click on the Home button and perform a tap & hold on the Settings app icon. Tap on the red button to quit the app.

Step 7: You're done! Open the Settings.app again and under the "General" tab, you will now find the "Multitasking Gestures" option, which will be set to ON, by default.

Using these now activated multi-touch gestures, you can reveal the multitasking tray with a 4-5 finger swipe up, switch between apps and return to the homescreen with a 4-5 finger pinch gesture.

iOS 4.3 To Bring New Find My Friends Feature for iOS Devices

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 06:41 AM PST

The iOS 4.3 Beta is out now and is certainly all the rage. Apart from the new iPhone and iPad models the iOS's code reveals and all the new features that it brings, we have another discovery lined up for you and this time it is from MacRumors, who have found references to a new 'Find My Friends' feature in iOS 4.3

MacRumors says:

Some further digging into the newly released iOS 4.3 developer build has revealed settings for a new feature called “Find My Friends”. The strings are associated with the Settings app and is related to “MobileMe”. The obvious interpretation is that Apple may be looking to offer a location-based friend-finding service like Loopt and Google Latitude.

Services like Loopt allow you to find your friends who near you at any given time by leveraging your mobile phone’s GPS signal. The constant updates can broadcast your location to your friends to know who is nearby. Obviously, these sort of systems are opt-in only, but shows what Apple maybe up to in fleshing out their MobileMe service.

The iOS 4.3 Beta is definitely sparking up interest, and no doubt these findings can indicate on what exactly to expect from iOS 4.3. We will definitely update as soon as any new references in the iOS's code are revealed.

iOS 4.3 Code Hints New iPhone and iPad Models

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 06:24 AM PST

It has not been long since Apple seeded iOS 4.3 Beta to Developers for testing on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and AppleTV, and we already have covered the new features that iOS 4.3 is going to bring. Now we bring an interesting discovery made by Engadget whilst digging deep in the iOS 4.3's code, which gives references to two new iPhone models and three new iPad models in the iOS 4.3 firmware.

Engadget reports:

If you dig far enough into iOS’s code, you’ll eventually come across iPhone3,1, which is the AT&T iPhone 4, and the analogous iPhone3,2 (i.e. Verizon iPhone). It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but then along comes iOS 4.3 with a handful of new mystery identifiers to spurn speculation — namely, two new-generation iPhones (4,1 and 4,2) and three iPads (2,1; 2,2; and 2,3). Speculate all you want, but there isn’t much else at all we can say definitively here, but if we had to take a guess, it’s the GSM and CDMA variants of the next-gen models (plus a WiFi-only iPad). It is interesting to note the lack of an “iPhone4,3″ given the yet-to-be-revealed iPhone3,3 is still there — will the last member ever see the light of day?

It looks like these references point to the GSM and CDMA version of the iPhone as well as the Wi-Fi, GSM and CDMA iterations of the iPad, however we do know that the next generation iPad and iPhone is likely to come without the home button and will be controlled via multi-touch gestures, only the future will tell what will become of the devices mentioned in the code.

CDMA iPhone Confirmed for Japan, South Korea, China & India as 7 Million Unit Target Set for Q1 2011

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 06:05 AM PST

Leaks from within the supply chain of Apple confirm that the company intends on making a version of its CDMA iPhone available for sale in South Korea, China, India, Japan and other countries. It has also been reported that Apple expects to sell several million of these CDMA iPhones in the first quarter of 2011.

Digitimes reports:

Apple’s CDMA iPhone orders could contribute about NT$1.9-2.1 billion (US$65.39-72.28 million) to each of its assembly partners, Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Pegatron Technology, while Apple’s adoption of new technologies as well as materials for iPhone is also expected to benefit its related supply chain partners in Taiwan, according to sources from upstream component makers.

The sources also noted that since the CDMA baseband module is more expensive, the model’s overall bill of materials (BOM) is estimated at around US$190-200, lower than iSuppli’s estimated BOM for the first-generation iPhone of US$217.73, but higher than the research firm’s figures for iPhone 3G/3GS of US$166-170.8 and iPhone 4G at US$188.

Apple's component suppliers would obviously be happy on hearing this news, whereas assembly partners Foxconn and Pagatron will see their profits hike as well. The report also mentions that Apple has been adjusting its shipment forecast for the CDMA iPhone and has set a volume of seven million units for the first quarter of 2011. Foxconn's model will solely be supplied to the US whereas Pegatron's model will be supplied to China and other countries. Apple has also adopted several new technologies in its devices such as halogen-free connectors, carbon fiber internals, solar glass charger plates and double-webcams.

According to this report, the iPhone sales are expected to achieve new records this year, which obviously remains to be seen as the sales figures roll in once the quarter ends.

Apple to Remove Home Button on iPad 2 & iPhone 5; Bringing Photo Booth, iLife to iOS?

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 05:44 AM PST

It seems like Apple may be planning to remove the home button from the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5, at least that is what BGR reports, meaning that the next generation iPad and the iPhone will be controlled using multi-touch gestures that have been offered in iOS 4.3

It has also been said that Apple CEO Steve Jobs never wanted any physical buttons on the original iPhone, and it looks like his wish might be granted when the next generation iPad and iPhone won't feature the home button.

The report:

We just got some pretty wild information from one of our Apple sources and while it's hard to believe at first, it does make sense. We have exclusively been told that the reason Apple just added multitouch gestures for the iPad in the latest iOS 4.3 beta is because the iPad will be losing the home button. Yes, we are told that Apple, at some point in time, will remove the home button from the iPad's design. Instead of button taps, you will use new multitouch gestures to navigate to the home screen and also to launch the app switcher.

That's not all, however. In addition to the home button disappearing from the iPad, we're told that this change will make its way over to the iPhone as well. Our source said Apple employees are already testing iPads and iPhones with no home buttons on the Apple campus, and it's possible we will see this new change materialize with the next-generation iPad and iPhone devices set to launch this year.

Apple may also be featuring popular Mac OS X applications likes Photo Booth and iLife on the iOS, around the time the iPad 2 is released.

Additionally, we're told Apple's popular photo-taking application, Photo Booth, will be appearing on the next iPad. It's also very possible that we'll see iLife apps for iOS unveiled around the iPad 2 release as well.

Would you like the next generation iPad and iPhone to come without the home button? Let us know your thoughts in your comments below.

iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Tool From Comex To Come After Verizon iPhone Release

Posted: 13 Jan 2011 05:26 AM PST

In the beginning of January, we had reported that Comex's untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 4.2.1 which missed its Christmas deadline, was not going to be released anytime soon, as Comex was delaying the release. Yesterday, we reported that Comex thought waiting a month for iOS 4.3/4.2.5 release alongside the Verizon iPhone was too long, and would probably be releasing his untethered jailbreak tool anytime soon. Now, we've different news, as it looks like Comex has changed his mind again!

According to a tweet that Comex sent earlier today says that he "thinks" he might wait for the Verizon iPhone to release, which is February 3rd for loyal Verizon customers and February 10th for all in the US, before he lets loose his untethered jailbreak tool.

Here is what was tweeted:

i0n1c: so @comex is not waiting for the next iOS for untethering?

comex: @i0n1c I don’t know, I think I’m waiting for the Verizon iPhone.

Looking at this development, it seems like Comex will wait until the Verizon iPhone is finally released to the public, of course that remains valid until another change of Comex's mind.

Currently, the only way to achieve an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 is through Redsn0w, whereas the Chronic Dev-Team has also indicated that they are working on their own untethered jailbreak tool, making GreenPois0n untethered upon release. We shall be sure to report when any updates come in.
